Ladies Styling
10:30am - 12:30pm
Level: All ladies of all levels welcome.
This is a chance for our ladies to really test their boundaries. This “girls only” opportunity offers you the chance to learn and practise those movements you have only ever watched, while wondering how! The delightful and stylish Jenni Collingwood will be taking us through some pointers, suggestions and advice on what you can do with different parts of your body from your head to your toes. She will enlighten us all as to just how you too can use different movements to add a little bit ‘extra’ to the dance while maintaining the connection with your leading partner. Watch and feel your dancing go from just plain steps to exhilaration every time you are out on that dance floor. Cost is just $30 per lady.

Unleash Your Inner Rhythm Workshop - music as it relates to dance (Music for dancers from a musician's perspective)
1:00pm - 3:00pm
Level: Intermediate. This workshop is suitable for all Intermediate dancers and above.
Ever wondered how that couple made that ‘hit’ in the music, ever been transfixed on the musicality of Advanced dancers? How do they know? What are they hearing that you are not!? This workshop will be presented by guest instructor Trish Wilson - musician/teacher/arts manager, and social dancer (latin/ballroom). With an emphasis on the technical side of music - this workshop aims to help you as a dancer connect with the musical side of your dance to unleash your own inner rhythm and make you rock! What will you come away with? The objectives of the workshop are not necessarily to create utopia! But rather: to provide you with some tools to increase your enjoyment, expand your skill base, increase your understanding of music, dance and the relationships between, and your own personal connection with the music.
Cost is just $30 per person, or $55 for a man and lady booking together.

Waltz Workshop
3:30pm - 5:30pm
Level: All dancers welcome.
Have you been watching dancers float round the floor during suppertime and been too scared to join in! All dancers are welcome to attend this workshop, whether you have been waltzing for years, whether you step to the three Waltz beats and manage to make it around the floor, or whether you have never tried but always wanted to. Guest instructors Phillip Porter and his wife Keri, will be stepping us through the Waltz, so that you too can do laps of the hall on a Friday night at suppertime!
Keri and Phillip have been dancing together for 18 years. They are both students of The Studio in Wellington and returned last year after spending 10 years in England learning and competing. They are now teaching at The Studio and are enjoying imparting what they have learned over time to other students of dance.
Cost is just $30 per person, or $55 for a man and lady booking together.

Kapiti-Hutt Regional Champs 2012
Week Seven Highlight
Dance Partners - How do I go about finding someone to dance with?

When you are asking people to partner you in a competition, remember that you can have a different dance partner for each category you enter! So if our calculations are correct you could dance with up to five different partners during the Freestyle events, seven if you enter Triples as well! And this is not even mentioning the six people you will dance with during each DWAS Heat! Not only are these Champs a great way to challenge your personal dancing but also to meet people and dance with many wonderful Cerocers from all over the country.
To find dance partners, get out on that limb, circulate in class and during dance evenings and ‘just ask’! During these pre-competition weeks we ask you to keep in mind the following.
Whether you are asking OR being asked please be kind and gracious at all times.
If you are being asked, remember how much courage it takes to ask another person for a dance, let alone ask whether they would be interested to compete! Let them know as soon as you can if you are not available, as they will need time to check out other dancers in time to enter.
If you are keen, both dancers need to communicate about how much time they can and wish to put into a competition at the outset! Some folk do loads of private practise with each other and this is all part of the fun. Others do very little intensive practise and are out there to enjoy the experience whatever it may bring. Either outlook is great and means there is more and more people taking part, getting out there and dancing, which as always is the aim of the game!
If you are doing the asking and someone says no, don’t take offence, simply keep in mind there may be a myriad of reasons why. They may already have a partner in mind. They may not wish to take part in a particular category. Competing may just not be their thing. Or they may be out of the country – the only good reason to not be joining party central on the weekend of the 17th of March!
The idea is to smile, laugh and have fun in whatever you choose!
More information about all events can be found on our Champs website along with many other crucial bits and pieces.
