What is Ceroc?
|
Ceroc from the French (cie le rock, this is rock) is modern jive, a fusion of Jive and Salsa. It's easy to learn, and with our help you should be dancing four moves by the end of your first class. You will get to meet and dance with many like minded people and it's fun (wait till you see the smiles). That’s the essential ingredient.
|
| What music is Ceroc danced to? |
Ceroc can be danced to virtually any type of music. During our classes we dance to a wide variety of modern music with a few of the classics thrown in. We love to hear you requests for music as well, keep them rolling in.
|
| Do I need my own partner? |
No. You don't need to bring a dance partner since we rotate right through the whole class to make sure everyone gets a chance to dance with partners of a variety of skill levels. It is always good to have equal numbers of guys and girls, so bring your friends along, the more the merrier. Check out a night near you.
|
| I've never danced before, does that matter? |
No. Anyone can learn Ceroc whatever the dance experience level. Our classes cater for absolute, total beginners who've never danced in their lives.
An example is one of our couples she had danced nationally Ballroom and Rock n’ Roll. He was a non dancer. After two weeks they danced Ceroc together; and both continue to be keen members.
So bring along a can do attitude and dance!
|
| Are there block courses I need to book for? |
No. Simply show up to any class venue and have a great time! You can start any beginners’ class any week. In beginners classes a new routine is taught in each class each night. So you can do any beginners classes each week. Just turn up!
|
| What does it cost and how much can I save? |
$15 for the night regardless of how many classes a person does. This is financially your best option and will encourage you to attend more often, get you fitter faster and get really good at dancing!
We also offer 10-Trip Passes and beginners packages. This option will also save you money. Check out classes for our current price list.
|
| What should I wear? |
You do not need any particular clothing to attend a Ceroc evening. Anything goes, casual wear or smart dress, as long as you feel comfortable. For hot nights it can pay to have an extra shirt and a towel. As for shoes, wear something that will allow you to move freely on the dance floor, such as leather-soled shoes or smooth-soled trainers. However, wearing deodorant is always a plus! Ladies please remember it is best to remove sharp jewellery.
|
| What is freestyle? |
Freestyle is where people dance with whomever they want, practicing whatever moves they want, while the music plays and the lights flash.
In freestyle, the best idea is to ask as many people as possible to dance, even if you think they are at a different skill level to you. In Ceroc etiquette it's considered rude for someone to refuse to dance when asked, unless they have a good reason (e.g. physical disability, or total exhaustion after dancing a really fast song!) People if you skip a dance due to exhaustion try to remember that person and find them for a dance once recovered.
|
| When can I move up to intermediate? |
You can move up after six lessons or more and after attending a ‘Moving Up’ workshop to give you confidence at the next level. Then you can enjoy more classes per night and get great value out of your Ceroc evening. Come ask one of the teachers as they will be able to help answer this question, and remember to ask them for a dance! |
